Wonderful source of secrets and stories

Mike has definitely packed a lot of information into this volume, and the pictures help tell the story. There are some secrets here you just won't find anywhere else. Mike also weaves in historical information where possible. For instance, on Main Street U.S.A., there 's a shop where you can have a silhouette made as a keepsake. Mike tells us the history of the silhouette in his entry. Did you know the cannons in Town Square came from the Hotchkiss company in France? How about the history of the Orchestrion in the Penny Arcade? it's all here. I definitely recommend adding this volume to your library. It's well-researched and well-written.

Skip this Froggy Book

I just can't get into this book. I read it to my first graders and didn't enjoy a single second of it. The story seemed so irrelevant and boring. ...not sure why it has to be about a kiss from Frogalina. There are just so many other, more interesting, ways I can think of having a horrible play date than what actually happened in the book.

It really was the worst!

Froggy was soooo looking forward to a great Saturday, but his mom made a playdate for him WITH A GIRL, Frogilina! Things went along all right for a while. They had a nice popcorn fight in the theater, that was good. But then things went from bad to worse. Frogilina kissed him! When they went out for icecream, he offered her a bite of his cone and she nipped off the BOTTOM OF HIS CONE so it dribbled all over his lap.

It really was the worst playdate ever!

I found this book to be incredibly refreshing. I loved most that it didn't have a happy ending. What kind of frog would bite the bottom off of someone's icecream cone? I was glad that was the end, that some grandma or other cheery parental type creature didn't come in and deliver a suitable moral so that Frogilina and Froggy ended up best friends. It is what it is! Boys and girls annoy each other AND don't understand each other. I like that Jonathan London has restricted himself to the real elements of kids' lives to create his story. This book almost sounds like a book that Froggy himself could have written about his day.

I don't understand why other reviewers say this book was not a fun readaloud. There are so many thumps and squeals and zips and zuks in it to have fun with.

Froggys Worst Playdate

This was a fun book. My grandkids loved it but of course they love all the Froggy books. My grand-daughter really liked the shirt that the dad wore in this book. She said he was more grown up as a dad. After reading this book, we always analize the book to see what Froggy could have done better to not have so many problems. There are always learning situations in these books. Always enjoyable books.

About the Author
Gregory J. Madden, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Utah State University. He earned a Master's degree in Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas is 1992 and a PhD in Psychology from West Virginia University in 1995.

After completing a three-year NIH-funded post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Vermont, Madden held faculty appointments at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Kansas before joining the faculty at Utah State University.

Madden's research falls under the umbrella of Behavioral Economics, with an emphasis on impulsive choice and health decision making. He is the author or co-author of a number of the seminal scientific papers in the study of delayed-reward discounting and its relation to addictions. His research in this area is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Drug Abuse). He also holds grants from the US Department of Agriculture. The latter grants support behavioral-economic approaches to influencing dietary choices made by children in school cafeterias.

Madden co-edited, with Warren K. Bickel, Impulsivity: The Behavioral and Neurological Science of Discounting (APA Books) and currently serves as the Editor of the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior established in 1958, the flagship journal of basic research in behavior analysis.

Recommend to undergraduates and graduate Behavior Analysis.
Unfortunately it is very expensive.

Academic look at advertising creative departments

A bit dry and not exactly riveting reading, this book worked well as a source for my masters thesis on women advertising copywriters. For that application is was outstanding. Anyone reading this book would pretty much have to enjoy saturating themselves workings ad agencies and creative departments. This is a highly specialized that book and does not look at ad agencies in a general way, but explores the dynamics of creative teams (copywriters/art directors) in London using interviews, research and analysis very specifically. This book is academic in tone. I found this book extemely helpful to my research and recommend it to anyone who needs to a source for the inner workings and sexual dynamics of advertising creative departments.

Arizona's Storied Brewing Past, Brought to Life

Beer is an industry with a storied past. It is an industry that is highly regulated and each state has its own unique set of laws governing its use, manufacture, distribution, etc. These differences, along with the often colorful individuals who have owned and operated breweries over the years, make the brewing industry one of the most unique of all. The mayhem that is the American brewing industry is captured nicely in the pages of Brewing Arizona, a walk through nearly 200 years of brewing history in the American southwest.

Brewing Arizona is a large, coffee table size book that covers the Arizona brewing scene from roughly the early 1800's to the present day. From the wild west days before Arizona achieved statehood to the modern craft beer boom, Brewing Arizona is ready to share the industry's high points, low points, and facts about the interesting individuals who helped shape the business as we know it today.

This book is well- researched and modern day craft beer fans will be happy to know that it devotes most of its pages to the craft beer boom of the past thirty or so years. Yes, the older history is covered as well, but the modern era receives the bulk of the book's pages. Readers will enjoy hearing about some of these newer players in the craft beer game, how they created their businesses, and the many unique challenges they face as they try to run a brewery from day to day.

Brewing Arizona is a walk through history and attempts to cover as many facts as its pages will allow. Because of this, it tends to present its material in a rather straight- forward manner without added humor, modifiers/descriptors, and other writing styles common to creative non- fiction. In many ways, it is like reading a long research paper that has been modified for general reading. It also has plenty of illustrations, too, and they are a tremendous asset to the book. Most of the pages include pictures and they are great for helping the reader associate a face with a name, a building with a brewery, etc.

America's brewing industry is one of its most unique and the people, places, and circumstances that helped make Arizona beer what it is today are covered nicely in the pages of Brewing Arizona. I came away from the reading with newfound knowledge of the Grand Canyon state's brewing industry and got to know quite a bit about its breweries, both old and new, and the many colorful individuals who have brewed its beer and helped its brewing industry adapt to change. It's a good way to learn a piece of brewery history and I recommend it to all.

I have been waiting for this book to be published since I first read about it in 2007! If you like beer and Arizona it is fabulous. It would still be a great book, even if you are not from Arizona.

Great book. Lots of really neat photos and information on Arizona brewing history. It definitely surpassed my already high expectations.
