A fun, interactive board book that will keep little one guessing as they play peek-a choo-choo ...

What better way is there to interest a baby or toddler in reading than combining a game with a board book? It's a combo that Nina Laden has down pat in her Peek-a series of board books for babies and toddlers. Her book, Peek-a Who?, was deemed one of Scholastic’s Parent & Child Magazine’s Greatest Books for Kids for a very good reason. It's just one of those books that became an instant classic, one that shouts out for more and more. Peek-a Choo-Choo is definitely a board book to watch out for!

Peek-a Choo-Choo is a miniature story in rhyme, an interactive one that will keep toddlers thinking and guessing as they engage in a game of peek-a boo. For example, on one two-page spread we begin the peek-a boo game. One one side we have “Peek a” on the opposite a cutout that we can peer through. There's a lightning bolt set against a white circle. What on earth could be on the next page? It's anyone's guess, but it's actually a “Peek a SHOE!” Once or twice after the book is read, little ones will be able to “read” the book themselves. I love the bright colors, the whimsical artwork, the unexpected rhymes, and total fun factor Peek-a Choo-Choo has to offer. It can't get much better than that in the board book department. I adore this series!

This is a cute "Peek" board book with clever "peek" windows on each board page. You never know what will come next!

The very last page is the best of all. Peek-a ??? It's a mirrow with "PEEK A I SEE YOU!"

Cute, well-designed. I am sure young children will delight in going through this book, time and time again.

Everybody loves peek-a-boo!

Children never get tired of playing peek-a-boo, just like they will never get tired of this little book. Through the clever use of die-cut holes, children are able to follow along and predict what comes next by the clues that peek through the holes. The rhymes are spot on, and even though most toddlers won't guess the first time through, they will delight in re-reading and shouting out the answers! The book rhymes choo-choo, canoe, flew, blew, shoe, and at the end a resounding I see you! accompanied by a mirror.

The tiny size makes this a perfect choice for little hands, although I really wish there was a bigger version available that I could share with groups! The bright colors and mirror at the end makes this a sure fire hit for infants and toddlers. An excellent entry in Nina Laden's series and a must have!

Very detailed book

Very good book with lots of detail. The pictures are a bit dated but decent enough for the job. I supplement this with a book that gives more physical description of the associated minerals and environment of occurrence. This goes into chemical and crystallographic detail very well.

With Heavy Heart I Ding This Edition Please Read Why!

As a geology student studying mineral identification I looked long and hard at every R&M book I could find and came to the conclusion the 4th edition of this work is the best. Why not the 5th? While it has better photographs for the most part it's not cross referenced. So if you look up Actinolite and go to the plate with the image it has no reference to the text about the mineral! the 4th DOES! Sounds small but if your doing a lot of work the page flipping gets tiresome and it was such an easy thing to do....Also the section on rocks is weaker in the 5th.

Also as mentioned in other reviews the binding is subpar and not worthy of a Field Manual. Cheap paperback with poor type set as compared with the 4th. Just harder to read. The 4th has the classic field manual feel to it and one has confidence it wont self destruct in a ruck sack on a collecting trip.

The color photos are a slight improvement but don't suffice for sharp detail and please note color is a poor indicator of minerals. Sure a great color image would be wonderful but a B&W that highlights the important detail will serve us better.

Much of the Pough text seems in tact and is the lone saving grace! the descriptions are a great help to my understanding and far and away the best out there.

I know these sound like minor complaints but I nail with one star to hopefully rattle the publishers cage and print a new permanent edition worthy of Dr. Pough's effort. I found a similar recent Peterson Guide to medicinal plants that have nice sewn flex binding for $2 more than the R&M book! The current Bird guide has the classic type set. I even called the publisher to see if they published a "field guide" version as opposed to this paperback and was met in a joking manner that was of no help.

So c'mon! Amazon is one of the best places to get messages across when publishers laugh in our faces! This work is too important to let cheap publishers do a half effort job on.

And go buy a mint copy of the 4th used for $5!

Not bad, bogged down a bit with the hippys

Not bad really. I was a bit dissatisfied with the ending. Seems like the last section of story was skipped over.
Seemed at times to dwell too long on some things , could have
Fleshed out more about how the rest of the country was affected.
Also, love and romance themes in these kind of books bore me. I'm not
Really interested in the love lives of people I don't know but that's just me.
Would have found it more interesting if he had covered more of the country,
Been involved in more major actions, taken a bigger role in the retaking of the country. In other words, not just skipping back off to the hippy farm.

Well written with good character development

Let me get the bad out of the way first... I enjoyed the book up to the end. The ending however ever left a lot to be desired; no resolution regarding the relationships of the main character. The author does an outstanding job with character development, and I found myself easily identifying with the main character, and this is why I feel the ending was a big let down.

Now for the good... The plot of the book is completely plausible; a world wide flu pandemic with everyone acting in their own best interests and governments failing. Another plus for the book is that the author is knowledgeable about firearms. As one who is in the profession of arms, I must confess that it bothers me when authors write as if the are knowledgeable about firearms, but reveal their ignorance with use of weapons related terminology. If the author was not already knowledgeable in this field, I appreciate the research he did.

A Fine Tale of Survival in Australia

I really liked this story and wanted to give it five stars but got tripped up by the ending, which wasn't bad but seemed too open-ended given the rest of the story. So, 4.5 stars really. Hey, if the author picks up and writes a sequel then he gets the other star. The characters were well written and the plot was sufficiently fast paced to keep my attention throughout the story. I'll definitely be looking for more from this author.
